Success Tip: FOCUS

Every time you switch tasks, allow yourself to be interrupted or try to multi-task, you’re losing time. Remember, time is the one resource that is NOT in abundance, nor can it be replenished. Multi-tasking feeds our desire for an adrenaline rush, making us think we’re more efficient when studies show we actually lose more time than we gain.

Think of it this way: if you lose a minimum of 3 (closer to 7!) minutes every time you multi-task, and you multi-task a modest 10 times per day, you’ve just cost yourself a full 30 minutes of time.

Ouch!

Better to enjoy the feeling of focusing. You’ll get more done and will be more relaxed as a result, making you happier, more at peace. . . not to mention keeping your sanity!

“The problem is how to remain whole in the midst of distractions of life; how to remain balanced, no matter what shocks come in at the periphery and tend to crack the hub of the wheel. For to be a woman is to have interests and duties, ranging out in all directions from the central mother-core, like spokes from the hub of the wheel.”

Success Tip: Planning for Success

Every homepreneur’s business needs a game plan, a map, Success Chart for long term success. I map out a general idea of what I want to do 3-5 years ahead of time, which is usually pretty difficult for the standard entrepreneur to do. When it comes to planning, 6 months to a year out is where I really get into the details and scheduling launches, speaking engagements, etc.

Creating this kind of business plan is so important for one main reason, it immediately eliminates a lot of the frustration that you can begin to feel when your business takes off and it will help you:

  1. Have a Vision for Success to assist you during challenging times
  2. Your visual map shows you where you are at, where you are going
  3. You have your action steps all laid out for you, no second guessing

Have you ever had a ton of ideas swimming around in your head but didn’t know what to do with them? Or, perhaps you had too many programs, none that linked to the other, no strategy? Or, have you ever just randomly put together a bunch of products and just threw them up against the wall like spaghetti to see if they would stick with your customers?

Today I’d like to share with you some very simple steps to business planning success so that you can start planning 6 months to a year in advance:

  1. Create a clear Vision Statement on where you want to be at in 6 months
  2. Brainstorm your top 3 ideas for products and ask your clients which they would like
  3. Take your Vision Statement and chunk it down into mini action steps and put them on your calendar
  4. Each product should flow into the next, meaning when you create one product launch, roll right into the next one.
  5. Always be planting the seed for what is to come.
  6. Always have a marketing funnel, or what we call the reverse marketing pyramid. We do it backwards . . . your top ROI product/service goes on top!

Success Tip: The FORMULA to designing a really great business or brand

Remember how I said that your customers vote with their wallets, and I asked what do your sales tell you? I heard from some of you in my Success Blog, “Grow Yourself, Grow Your Wealth” on how you answered this question. Well let me take this a step further . . .

No matter what league you’re in, the rules of the game and the strategies to win it remain the same. And, as most of you know, I’m into the WIN-WIN concept, your customer WINS, YOU WIN!!

Sometimes all it takes is the right coach to point the way. Designing a great business is really just aligning yourself with a series of small elements that, when taken together, become something truly powerful.

The formula begins with understanding that customers aren’t buying “stuff”. They’re buying their aspirations – the image of life as they want it to be; the image of themselves as they would like to be seen by others. If you’re selling them “stuff” they’ll be unimpressed, and your sales will show it. If you can sell them their own idealized self image, or help them with some of their biggest problems in life – your “stuff” will be flying out the door.

There are certain fundamental elements of great business that will make that connection with your customer on a gut level. Now I know you gals have all heard this before, it’s nothing new, it’s just we tend to make things harder than they need to be.

The challenge is to get all of these elements to align with each other and with your brand in a way that makes your customers experience just feel good.

Seriously, designing a powerful business may look like you have to be a genius. The information out there is overwhelming.

But the FORMULA is as simple as this: It’s really just a mix of :

  • little bit of creativity
  • vision
  • a little experience (if you don’t have it, learn it!)
  • in-depth understanding of YOU

And, be authentic in everything you do with your branding, your service or product, and your customer. Put all of this together in a way that makes them feel good, which in turn will make your cash register ring. Or in the cases of online marketers – our computer go Cha-Ching!

“I finally realized that what I was doing was what I was supposed to be doing all along. I’m a teacher, but I’m also an explorer. The way I give back to society is by raising awareness of the environment, by shrinking the globe for kids and teaching them about success, failure, and risk.”

Success Tip: What is Branding?

What most think Branding is:

  • Logo, picture, your name, maybe a little saying
  • It’s so much more than that . . .

I’ve worked with big businesses who think small, and small businesses who think big.  I won’t say which are which, but I will tell you that the best marketers, big or small, have passion and vision, and a burning desire to connect with their customers.

And that is reflected in everything that they do.

Whether you’re a Fortune 500 company, or The Shop Around the Corner, your customers want to know you. They want to identify with YOU, and YOU with them.

This is about a relationship, people – between you and your customers. And any successful relationship is based on honesty, authenticity, shared interests and values, and clear communication.

  • What does your brand image, your logo, your web site, your blog – say about who you are?
  • Is your message clear?
  • Is it consistent?
  • Is it engaging and connecting with your customers?

Your customers vote with their wallets – what do your sales tell you?
